Text-based Tasks Repository

Text-based Tasks Repository

About the Repository

The Text-Based Tasks Repository (TxBTR) project creates and shares zero-cost resources for language teaching using authentic target-language materials. The design of this curated Open Educational Resources (OER) website includes areas for sharing (1) text-based tasks for second and heritage language teaching at all proficiency levels, and (2) a teaching manual and other ancillary resources to support the implementation of the tasks. The Repository will house tasks for teaching Arabic, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish, with the eventual goal of expanding to include tasks in more languages.

Text-based tasks rely on the foundation of establishing text genre, done by using authentic texts created by the language community, leading this repository to become a vibrant, inspiring collection of real-world internet reviews, TikTok videos, and personal blog posts which make the lessons come alive for the learners. Most tasks were created and piloted by college-level instructors trained under CILC’s Text-based Pedagogy Training (TxBPT) project

The Repository is a project of CILC, the Center for Integrated Language Communities, a Title VI National Language Resource Center partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, housed at ILETC, located in the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
